Snakes and mice

Our neighbours saw a red belly black snake just over the fence from our pond the other week. And the dogs have killed six baby mice recently.
I saw a seventh in the chook shed and tried to stomp on it with my boot but wasn't quick enough.
Dixie, clever and most beautiful chook that she is, caught it screaming in her beak. But alas as she repositioned herself for a stronger hold she lost the little rodent and it fled into the long grass never to be seen again.
So do we have a mouse 'plague' and are we now inviting all the neighbourhood snakes over to our place? I don't know. But we have the technology to deal with the problem. A live mouse trap and some peanut butter.
I will keep you posted.
